Does anyone know if N80 has the option of rewinding the film but leaving the tail so that I would not have to use a film retriever. If it does can you tell me how to do it.<BR>

Thank you.

Sorry, I have the F80s - the Euro version of the N80 with the QD back and one more custom option only available on this model - exposure data imprinting between frames. This camera does not have the option you are looking for. Other Nikons do, but I forget which ones they are (I believe it's the F100).

NO.. but I have heard that a Nikon Repair center can do something to stop the winding before the end. I would not do it..

I don't know anything about re-programming an N80, but I am aware that an F100 can be altered. It's my understanding that this is a permanent change (unless sent back to a Nikon service center to return to normal). The hassle of sending the body to a service center is more than offset by simply buying a film leader retriever. Personally, I don't do enough mid-roll changes to warrant changing the whole camera's set-up.<BR>

There have been several posts at <A HREF=http://www.nikonians.org" TARGET='_blank'>www.nikonians.org</A> "Nikon F/N80 Forum" on this subject. <BR>

Per the post "<b>Info from Nikon on film rewind:</b>"<BR>

"I called Nikon this morning 800 645 6678 and was informed they would do the modification at one of their regional repair centers for about $27 plus shipping and handling or around $37."

leader retrivers are $2 and I've never scratched a neg using one. one of my cameras has the leave leader out function and I always forget to turn it on when I do the auto rewind.

ok, so far you got only one serious answer, funny people. Since the 8008 was introduced you could send the Nikon AF cameras to Nikon to alter to either/or leader in or out. The latest cameras include custom functions, so you can switch whenever you want.<BR>
Something that worked fine with the 8008, open the camera back when the counter has counted back to zero and the rewinding stops and the leader is still out. Try it a couple times and see how this works for you.

Zapp the N80 doesn't offer this feature in their custom settings. I guess you would have to send it back to Nikon for this. The only custom settings on rewind are as follows, #1 End of roll auto rewind. Either you set thie camera to do it auto or you can op to push buttons, #13 Film rewind. Option of fast or quiet. If there is a setting for mid roll rewind please advise, I'm not saying I know everthing.

Buy a retriever. No, not a dog, either. Opening the back works...IF you have lightning quick reflexes. I have had varying amounts of success with this method. Enough misses that I just gave up and got a retriever.
