I have a client who wants a particullary small part of the picrure to be cropped and printed on 8x10. I have taken the image with Digital Rebel on medium setting as I wasn't planning to sell these photos.

However as the part to be cropped is about 1/4 of the image size I am afraid that the result wouldn't be satisfacrory, too soft.

I have heard of 10% stair method in PS and S-Spline software. I would preffer if I don't have to spent money on new software.

Any tips here.

The method is to resize up 10% at a time using photoshop. slow but effective, using 1.5 mp ( 1/4 of a 6 mp image ) you may get usable, results .

There is a freeware program, Irfanview, that is great for resizing and cropping. It is available at www.irfanview.com. A tutorial is available at http://www.teachers-connect.net/MASTII/infanv/irfanv.htm
