<div>So I can get a 500mm Mirror lens for $100, Im guess bad optics and bad pics, but that is tempting.... Anyone use a lens like this?</div>

<div>I have a 500mm f8 Sigma Mirror lens. I haven't used it in a long time but the results weren't too bad. In fact I have a couple of good 8x10's hanging on my wall that it was used for.</div>

<div>There are a couple of decent makes of mirror lenses out there, and there are a few dogs. It would help to know the brand name.</div>

<div>I am guessing for $100, it is a Phoenix, Quantaray, or whatever brand that they slap on the Samyang that Adorama advertises.</div><div> </div><div>I bought the Quantaray on a whim. Most expensive paperweight I ever bought. At f/8, the DOF is so shallow, and the focus being manual (so make sure you buy a T-mount adapter if you don't already own one) it was much too difficult to use.</div>

<div>I bought Quantiray 500 f/8,it did OK,but I returned it after about a week,(30 day return policy).</div><div>If it was the least bit dark outside I could'nt see thru it hardly, just about every pic was blurry from not being able to manual focus cuz I could'nt see good or camera shake. But have heard some say they got good results, but not me.</div><div>I'ld rather use my Viv. 100-400,auto focus, much better results.</div><div> </div>

<div>I have maybe a dozen mirror lenses. All of them are OK and some are real good. Among the real good ones are a couple of Russian ones and a couple of Sigmas and three Tokinas. I have read that some of the earlier Vivitars were extremely good but the current ones are the Samyang, Promaster etc. mentioned above.</div><div> </div><div>I have a couple of the cheap Promaster etc. Mirror lenses and they are perfectly good although not great. I will say the worst lens I ever had was a Korean made mirror lens. I have seen other Korean made ones which were alright.</div>

<DIV>Though you vvould not get one for a hundred bucks, the 500mm <EM>f</EM>8 Minolta AF tele was an excellent lens (of course, you would need a Maxxum or Sony Alpha to use it).</DIV>
