I've been trying to load a new avatar, but try as I may, I can't get even a sharpened RAW image, converted to SRGB and JPEG, and reduced to 72 dpi and 80x80 pixels to come in under 32KB.

What's the trick??? :(

Howard, when I made my avatar a few years ago, it weas from a scan lifted from 35 mm film. I checked the info on it, and it's exactly 4KB (4096 bytes). DOn't know if I was jsut lucky, or what.

What method are you using to save the file? Getting yours down to or below the required 19.5 KB shouldn't be too hard but the quality won't be the greatest. If you're using "Save as" at the lowest quality saving and can't get the file small enough, try using "Save for Web" and pick the highest quality that will still get you to 19.5 KB or less. "Save for Web" strips the EXIF information away so it should render a smaller file. :)

My thanks to you for giving me the key to making this work.

One nice touch in this new BB is the much larger (an increase of 156%) avatars over the 50x50's of the old BB. :)
