John I must admit it did give me an emotional response, so I think it is a success. Did you add the blur or was it dof? I can't think of any way to improve this but I am sure some will like it and some not at all.

Well, there's only one thing that springs to mind as a way to improve the shot, and that is as Alex previously noted a beautiful reclining female Nude. I'm guessing wild Nudes are as scarce in your neck of the woods as they are in mine though:D. To be serious for a minute, I like the shot quite a bit, but think it may profit from one small additional element, perhaps somewhere along the arch on the left where the woods, and lawn meet.;)pith

Just curious Randy, what was the emotion you experienced? The blur was added. I used lens blur and radial blur.
No nudes Pith.:(
I'll keep your suggestion in mind, but I prefer to leave things where they are and not set up shots at this place. The chaise has appeared in other pics, and at one time it was on the second floor of the house in :

Every time I visit this site, things are moved around. Last year, this is what the chaise looked like.

I'm sure you'll remember it once you see it Pith.

I'm not sure if being uncomfortable is an emotion or just a pain......, but that was my first reaction.
Apparently you have a compulsive redecorator who keeps moving things around. I liked this inside the house more, for it's compositional advantages..

I keep coming back to this one, trying to figure what is wrong with it. It is a very clever shot; the background "wants" to be an eye or a flower or somesuch, but it doesn't quite make it. And since it doesn't -- the whole deal leaves the impression of a product shot.

John it just kind of hit me in the gut.

I'm afraid I don't care for this one, John. There is certainly no question what your subject is. However, the distortion of that fisheye kind of makes me dizzy. I could say "that's a visceral reaction imposed by the photographer to symbolize the discomfort of life," or some such, but it just doesn't work for me.
Upon further reflection, the fisheye doesn't really allow me to wander through the shot. The intact cushion is disproportionally large, and the torn cushion is disproportionally small. Unfortunately, that's where the detail of exposed springs, fabric, and framing all are. But instead of being able to follow all these things, that large cushion keeps pulling my attention back. I have to force myself to the other cushion to be rewarded with any detail.
I'll give you credit for looking at things in a very different way, however.

If it's a product shot Alex, I think it's a tough selling job.
Tim, while the effect is supposed to be disorienting, you make some very good points otherwise, and I hope to be able to get back there and incorporate some of your ideas. Maybe I'll even get an eyeball to put in there somewhere.;) I'll have to ask Sharna what she can spare from her freezer.

Indeed. Now -- how about the idea of making the background into an eye's iris? Shoot an eye separately and integrate the whole lot. The cruder -- the better, no need to pretend it'd real, smack it in like a cubist sort of thing.

I considered the eye thing but I thought it might be cliche. I felt the curve of the horizon and the grass made it look like the couch was on top of a head.
i may have to re shoot and superimpose a head shot.

This shot does have impact - it made me feel distinctly uncomfortable and curious as to the nature of the disaster. Successful. I honestly don't know whether or not I like it, however.

I love it, I think it portrays exactly how everyone feels while on that couch a little disorientated and very uncomfortable

Thank you Gordon. Sorry, but your discomfort is what I was indeed trying to inspire. The couch reminded me of the kind you'd see in a cliche psychologists office. I thought using the springs breaking through would be a good representation of a fear of being analyzed by a shrink. I couldn't find a word for that specific fear, so I just went with Psychophobia, fear of the mind.
The only time I'd consider hanging this in my house would be for Halloween.
