Funny how things change. I just watched a few episodes of Jack Benny. Hardly any one of the guests or regulars can go 5 minutes without referring to th sponsor American Tobacco Company.
At least I finally learned the origin of the phrase, "happy go lucky" Lucky Strike that is.
The photo is unremarkable, but it fits your title.

Hi Scott,

New year new avatar. I think I like lookingt at your new avatar better than the butt's.

That said the photo is very good and I enjoy the fact that you have posted all the specs.

Good picture for a campaign or something like this. Just needs a slogan like: that's how your lungs feel.
Therefore I like the picture.

It's an interesting photo, Scott. As an affirmed non-smoker, I agree with your assessment. Some, however, might title this "Satisfaction." I'm afraid the photo alone doesn't evoke disgust in both groups. If your intent was to evoke disgust like an anti-smoking campaign, it doesn't work. If it's to showcase "dirtiness" (i.e., carcinogens, nicotine stains, ash, and litter), I think the black and whit conversion hurts. Also, grain can add to the grittiness of a photo, but in my opinion only serves to reduce contrast here, which further minimizes "dirtiness."

I agree with Tim. The graininess clashes with the actual dirt and overpowers it. I think showing the butts as clear and sharp as possible sends a clearer message.

Actually, I think this is quite good, and for myself I like the gritty, grainy effect. The moment I saw this shot it reminded me of the worlds worst cup-o- coffee I once got on a daily basis from a Deli on the way to work. I had always suspected that they poured cigarette butts into the urn to get that incredibly nauseating flavor. This shot takes me back to those days, because I never smoked, but did drink horrible coffee.;)pith

The image is gritty and disgusting. Unfortunately, it reminds me of when (over 30 years ago) when I smoked. We'd run out past closing time of our local store, and actually rummage through disgusting ashtrays like this, looking for the longest and most smokable "dib".

I'd forgotten about this. Thanks Scott.

I agree with Tim here. I think that this image should be sharp and clear and well lit. Those butts looks like whomever smoked them chews on them too. *gross* lol My daddy used to chew on his cigarettes so us kids wouldn't take his butts and smoke em, it worked, we smoked moms. lol
I haven't touched a cigarette in 12 years on the 17th of this month. I still get an occasional twinge when I see someone smoking.
But when I smell it outside a store or when someone stinks of it so bad it makes you gag, that's when I'm glad I quit.

The photo reminds me of something odd.

A couple of years ago, my Daughter and family visited. We were at the beach near Destin, FL.

The sand was perfectly white the water was clear and not the slightest sign of trash except for one thing.

For a couple of hundred yards right at the waters edge, there must have been a cigarette butt every few inches. The only thing I can think of to explain it was a boat must have come by and dumped a huge ashtray.
