I have been checking out lens adapters and from the images that I have seen of them it looks as if the adapter must be screwed into the place where the cameras original lens mount is.
That means I would have to purchase several lenses of a given brand to make it worthwhile. Does anyone make a lens adapter that you can place on the back of the non camera manufacture's lens, Zeis or Leitz, and after taking the shots with the new lens switch back to the cameras designed lenses?

As much as I like the Zeis 21mm f2.8 and the Leitz 90mm APRO sumicron f2 I can't see me affording several lenses of either make. My Canon gear will have to do and it can come pretty close to the quality of those two but not quite for what I want to use the lenses.

Lynn: I could be wrong but I believe that most lens adapters are designed to be removed from the camera body when not needed and the camera's original lens put back in the camera body.

Zeiss lens for range finder cameras have screw in mounts

The maker of the lens adapter will inform you of any limitation on which lens may or may not be used with their adapter.

Just remember one thing, always attach the adapter to the camera first then attach the lens to the adapter, to remove the adapter, remove the lens first then remove the adapter.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Galahad. I just came back from doing some errands and remembered that Zeis has the 21mm with a ZE, for Canon and ZF for Nikon, mount so an adapter is not necessary. The adapters that I have seen for Leitz R lenses have six holes in them to replace the Canon mount. Unscrewing six screws and replacing them in the other mount is not exactly what I care to do in the field. I hope to find a lens adapter that works similar to extension tubes and Tele Extenders.
