What is the best brand for backdrop stands? I need something that I can use to shoot outside and not break on me.
Calumet?
Photoflex?
Thanks.

Of more concern than breaking is the possibility that it might blow over. Not only is this a hassle, you run the risk of injuring someone. So whatever you get, make sure it's super sturdy and heavy enough to withstand outside shooting. You may also need weights for it such as sandbags. But I don't know what brands are best. I'd suggest calling B&H or Adorama and talking to the very knowledgable sales reps.

I got the Calumet system (two stands, sectional crossbar) 7 years ago, and am still using it. It works great.
As has already been pointed out, you'll need sandbags or tie-downs if you're using it outside in the wind -- you're basically creating a big "sail" when you hang a background, and it will love to fly away on you :)
