A Wein HSHSB Thank You, Guys

A couple of weeks ago I asked about the Wein HSHSB surge protector so I could use my Metz 45-CT4 flash on my Pentax digital cameras. Well, I bought the product, and am I elated! Yes I can only use it on auto or manual, but that's how I've always used flash anyway.

Bonus - it works with my Sunpak DX Ringflash, too! And here there is no penalty, because the magnification rate is a known quantity, and as I move forward, I decrease the power of the flash, and back I increase it. Here are some demo photos, just taken around the house:

Cuckoo clock - 10 feet, Pentax K100 with Pentax-A 80-200 f4 Zoom. Speckles on wall are not dust on sensor, they are ash from my woodstove!

This was taken from the back of my kitchen to the far end of my living room, the top of the stereo cabinet, 38 feet. Same equipment as above.

This is a portrait of my sister's cat. K10D, 45CT4 flash on manual, 28-70mm Sigma f2.8, from 6 feet.

And finally, here's the bonus. I stuck this dime in my keyboard, and photographed it with my K100D, 90mm Tamron f2..5 Macro, and my Ringflash set to manual, 1/8 power at f11, 1:1.5 magnification ratio.

To say I'm pleased that I can use my old equipment is an understatement, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you guys who participated in my thread last week.

I didn't have a hand in it Gord but if I knew anything about it I would have. *grinz*
WTG on getting your stuff working together. That's always a plus.

    You are perfectly welcome.

If you don’t mind, can you go into more detail about the lighting used for the white cat? I am very impressed with the quality of the light.

I don't mind at all. As you know, the 45-CT4 is a powerful flash - too powerful for a white cat that was only six or seven feet away. So I simply doubled over two or three times some white Christmas tissue paper, taped it over the head and handle of the flash as a diffuser, and voila!

Even though Jan's cat is very attractive, it doesn't like people and tends to attack if disturbed, and a flash disturbs it. The diffused version, somewhat less so, but I still stay away from those claws!
