I wish I could go back to Asheville but not possible. I spent a lot of time near there. Back in the 60's and 70's a bunch of us would park and visit the stores on Patton Ave.
We would start at the All Sports Store and hit a bunch of others then end up at Finkelsteins.
On the way back, we would visit Ball Photo on tunnel road. I wonder if that old thief is still operating. He always managed to beat me on any trade I made with him.
LMAO...See, I just moved here back in October, so I'm still getting a feel for the area. I am laughing so hard because in my first week here, I stopped by Ball Photo (you have to know where your local photo store is, after all), and I walked out after a trade and still am wondering if I got took. {chuckle}. Ahh, it's OK though...I wanted what I traded for, so it's OK. I said to myself though that I don't think I'll be doing anymore trading there. It is so funny you mentioned that.
I think you'd be amazed at the changes though. I visited Asheville about 10 years ago and it is so much different from then, so I can imagine how it's changed from when you were last here. Traffic is a nightmare at times, I nicknamed this area "Little NY" cause it can get pretty rough. The scenic wonders abound though, and I am proud to call this area my new home.

We have relatives in Wilmington, so another time.
I'm on southwest shore of Lake Norman. I've seen enough snow this season in my travels, so not going to hit the mountain region til spring is locked-in. Now if you're headed towards Charlotte, you are welcome to make contact.
Now in Ashville from where? Actually been resident of NC before?
One of the fun things to do in Asheville was watch the Tourists play at historic McCormick Field. I remember when Sparky Anderson was the manager, then it became the Orioles, then Tourists again.
When it was the Orioles, Cal Ripkin Sr. was the manager and they had one of the best teams in the Southern League. I think they now have dropped to single A. A cheap date, only 75cents admission back then plus if you bought a program you had around a 50% chance of winning a door prize. It would only be something like a 2 Liter bottle of Coke but it was fun winning.

if your gonna be in the area, just let me know.

I'm a NC lifer. I was born in Winston, and last lived in High Point. We have annual passes to Carowinds, so we frequent Charlotte- although I don't think we renewed them yet for this year. We had 15" of snow about a week before Christmas, and in some parts, hints of it still remain, but for the most part- it is gone. It was neat to see and photograph frozen waterfalls, and other winter spectacles during that brief spell, but unless you love BW photography, it's hard to find something worth shooting- especially since the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed. I can't wait for spring to get here, it will be amazing!

I've seen the stadium, but I'm not a big sports fan so haven't given it too much thought. I prefer to venture on the BRP and it's trails, or head to Brevard- just 30-35 minuted from me, and venture in the Pisgah National Forest. I have plans to explore the DuPont forest soon, but will probably wait till spring for that. The entrance to the BRP is literally a minute from my apartment (staying in one here in Asheville until our house is completed in Fletcher), but as I mentioned earlier, sadly the BRP has been closed for a month now. Due to all the wet weather, the rivers/streams are full and overflow quite often- so I cannot wait till summer gets here so the levels will drop. Yes, I think it is a good thing that there is plenty of water, but I prefer to water bouncing off the large boulders rather than just a solid sheet of water.
In any case, there is a lot to see and do here, I just don't know a single soul.
I live in Raleigh, but am in Asheville quite a bit - my brother in law just got a job at the Biltmore Hotel, so I hope to visit more than we used to. I have done a bunch of shooting around the city as well on the BRP and am always up for something if I am around.
