Canon EOS 20D only takes 1 picture at a time

My Canon EOS 20D just recently started to freeze up after taking one picture, so have to turn it off and back on to take another picture.... and today, functions like auto-focus and the buttons on the back stopped working. It appears there is some electrical circuitry malfunction going on. Anyone experience something like this on their Canon? I thought I would throw this out to other to find out what you ended up doing before I take it into a camera shop.

All I can suggest is that you take out both batteries (the BP-511 AND the button cell) and let it sit for 30-60 minutes. Replace the batteries and see if it helped.

If not, you'll have to ship it off to Canon for an estimate. (Estimates are free, if you decline service you'll only be out the price of your shipping.)

do you have the long exposure noise reduction turned on?

oop, never mind, it may be the clock battery mentioned previously.
    Mischance nothing, thus idle woe...

Photography is not about how much camera you bring to the shoot.

I replaced the button cell and ensured the camera battery (BP-511) was fully charged, with no effect. When I turned the camera on, the flash pops up and flashes several times... I can take one picture and the picture shows up in the screen on the back of the camera, and the camera freezes up, and I have to turn it off and back on to get it to take another pictures. As well, none of the buttons on the back of the camera work. Looks like I need to get an estimate to have it repaired.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Sorry to hear that, makins, but thanks for coming back with a follow-up. We don't get that a lot with newcomers.

You can start the repair process by going to their website here. It'll also tell you which facility to send the camera to, depending upon your location.

Here in the northeast US, I've had nothing but prompt, professional service from the Jamesburg, NJ office. The only caveat I'll offer is that, as an eight-year-old model, it may cost more to repair a 20D than it is actually worth.

Good luck, and please let us know the results.
