I should also add that while the 24-105 was my main 'workhorse' lens when I shot Canon, I neve once used the IS. I've never had another lens with vibration reduction in my Canon bag nor now in my Nikon bag. Don't get all hung up on vibration reduction as a 'feature' on a lens. It's a very expensive item, particularly on Canon lenses (about $300 to $400) and of dubious actual value.
Life is too short to bother with the criminally inane.

I always believed VR and IS to be the solutions to non-existent problems.
I shoot with film. That's film. F....i....l....m. You remember film. It was in all the papers.

Just a contrary note: I like VR lenses, especially on telephoto zooms, but even on normal zooms. I find that VR really helps. Bear in mind, though, that I do a lot of handheld shooting; consequently, VR has been a real help to me. If you're a tripod shooter, or if you're a really steady handholder, then VR is a waste of money. Another factor is that today's lens manufacturers are putting VR in virtually all their new releases, so it's rapidly becoming a nonchoice.
