Default Sony A700 owners talk me out of it.

Well right now I'm so tempeted to upgrade from my A350 to the A700. Amazon is listing them as low as $749 and B&H has them for $849. What would be the benefit of going to the A700 VS the A350? I got to handel the A700 at the Digtial Days Workshop last fall and liked it.

To me, the key to upgrading is figuring out what my current gear won't do for me and then finding out what is out there that will do what I need to do. For instance, for the longest time I used a Canon 20D, and it met all my needs. The only think I wished is that it had more "headroom" for crops. When the 50D came out, I went ahead and bought it so I could crop and still print at an acceptable size.

I have a A700. I know a little about the A350, but not a lot. The A700 buys you a CMOS sensor with a bit less resolution. That means less noise. In my experience, the CMOS sensors work better for very long exposures (star trails). If you've seen the A700 then you must have noticed the LCD...its beautiful high resolution. The A700 can shoot 5 fps, twice as fast as the A350--useful for sports, not much else. Does the A350 have only one wheel for adjusting Shutter/Aperature in manual mode so that you have to press a button to toggle between them? The A700 has a wheel for each. The A700 doesn't have live view, but has a better optical viewfinder.

I'm not sure I'm going to miss the live view. I use it on occasion, but I learned to shoot with a optical view finder. As for the burst rate I know I'll put that to use and less noise will be good. I may still keep my A350 as a back up body too.

I just got it Friday. I need to get some quality time with my A700 to see if it was worth it. So far I like the bracketing mod and the double burst rate from my A350.
