real nice work John, Im kinda torn on which direction to go, I like the b&w and its tones but I think I like the crop on the second one better with a little more room,, either one is very nice, very nice light and water droplets and both are super sharp, did you use your new glass on these ?

I think the 1st one is slightly better than the 2nd one, but maybe that's because I'm a sucker for b&w. Very well done and love the water drops.

I like both but prefer the 1st because it appears sharper, has better tonal qualities, and isn't blownout on the pistils/stamens(?). I like the water drops on the 1st moreso. Both do feel a bit tight though.

Yeah, I like the first one better, too. I like its tonality better and it looks sharper. In any case, its a lovely shot of a flower. I like the background and the way the light falls on the petals and the flower's center. I don't agree that it's cropped too tight, however. I prefer it the way it is. Interesting, too, is that you're showing a black and white (or sepia toned) photo of a colorful flower. I think it's cool that you choose black and white. It works for me.

I like #1 myself. How can you tell they are Mexican?

For different reasons, I like them both, John. For tonality, sharpness, and mood, number one is the winner. However, like Russ said, it's awfully tight in the frame. The dark b& w is also pretty somber.
Number two has more breathing room. Also, the warmer coloring feel more inviting. Finally, the lightness of this shot keeps pulling my eye to it and away from shot one. That's got to say something!

Actually a toned down orange filter Ron. I think BW sometimes picks up on details that get missed with bright colors. Quote:

John I think #1 for sure, and what a good looking shot. Super sharp.
