Is your graphics card capable of handling that resolution?

Don't know how to find out but it came with the new Dell Computer and monitor so I assume they are compatible. The aspect ratio of 1024X768 is 1.333 which is way off the screen 1.72 (19X11) which gives it the spreading wide effect, I guess..

I had a simular problem with the new desktop a few months back. Windows was set for a 1024 x 768 display size, the monitor os 1920 x 1080. In my case the video driver interpolated the 1024 up to 1920 and cut the top and bottom of the screen off because it was to large to fit.
There were two ways to solve my problem and they will work for you as well.
find a setting in your video driver that will display the 1024 x 768 centered in your display.
Or the better way is to look up the native resolution of your display and set the video driver to display at that resolution and your problem will go away.

Default monitor

First, check if you monitor is recognized; i.e. if Windows, Right click on computer, get to Device Manager, Click on the + sign To Left of Monitor -- it will open up to show the Monitor, if it is not the one you have check with Dell they will live input you and show you how to get the right one recognized -- .

If it is the Monitor you have, Then Right click on Desktop, with Vista, A window will open click on Personalize, then Click on Display Settings, there you have a choice or Wide screen monitor, or regular, Click which you have, click on identfy, it should show wide, if not click on the wide, then make any other corrections or changes you want such as: Resolution, Colors, advanced settings which include -- Color Management, Monitor, Troubleshoot, and a few others. This should help.

God luck.

Before you go to the website for dell, Have your Service Tag Number ready It is usually located on the back or side of item. If you choose Find My Service Tag, they will ask if they can scan your computer -- Let them -- it will show them if it is recognized and help them help you sometimes live which is great.

and lastly, it is entirely possible that the display adapter in your computer does not support 16:9 monitors.
I had to add a video card to get this new monitor to display properly.
